We love anything DJ Ayres is involved in. The Rub? Amazing. And those Heavy Warmups? Just dope. So, when he rings to inform us he’s involved in trunk-music-cum-future-bass duo Clicks & Whistles’ new Neva Get Caught/Raw Passion split, we stood up quick. Lots of great takes on the record, including those by Tittsworth, Deathface, and Starks & Nacey, though our hearts belong first to Ayres’ own transcendent and synthy spin of “Raw Passion.” Pop pads, raindrops and chipmunk vox make this one feel like we’re night swimming in Avatar; it’s that lush and dizzying.

Lana Del Rey has become an is-she-real-is-she-fake critical piñata over the last few months, but we’re pretty sure no actual fan cares as long as the music is good. Penguin Prison takes that approach to remixing her song-of-the-moment “Blue Jeans,” at least. Del Rey’s old school vocals are complemented here with his big beats and brassy downtown superclub synths, which take the original's noirish elements and puts them under a dance floor spotlight. Basically, the new Stevie Nicks is up in the club.

Belgium’s Maxime Firket aka Compuphonic wanted to share a few tracks of his that are sure to please. One of his first releases was the ‘Emotion EP’ on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings imprint and his subtile remix of "Shaded" by Cari Lekebush as well as his passionate remix of "Anywhere" by The Presets on Modular garnered unanimous acclaim. DLF Music - David Lynch's new non-profit record label - teamed up with Moby to create this video for "The Poison Tree." Moby generously donated "The Poison Tree" to DLF Music, which is featured on charity compilation DOWNLOAD FOR GOOD.
DLF Music is the David Lynch Foundation's newest venture - an online charity music label where music fans can download for good. This intern-fueled non-profit organization assures that the funds raised from music sales go directly to the David Lynch Foundation. Electro alchemists The Golden Filter just keep getting weirder. Their latest, “Shake,” wheezes static for a full minute before jackhammer synths slice in, accompanied by triangle tings and ritualistic cries. Then suddenly, we’re in wood sprite territory, overcome by ceremonial incantations, whispers and staccato beats. By the end, it’s all merged into a furious, asthmatic dance to the death. EPIC!
Tin Manzano's re-working of the title track from City Of Satellites' debut album Machine Is My Animal weaves and loops the original's guitar hook amid electronic beats and surging, breathy textures. The result is a gorgeously seductive instrumental, in which restraint and space are as alluring as the sounds blooming across the stereo field. The track is accompanied by this gorgeous music video from Adelaide-based Studio Sunkie (director Nima Nabilirad and producer/colourist/editor Daniel Principe). The emotional resonance between sound and vision is completely compelling and the video’s mini-narrative is saturated in the kind of melancholic hope that the song exudes.

Whooo! “Luuk Out Gurl” is a collab between some of Chicago’s finest, Flosstradamus and Kid Sister. Their footwork-inspired jam is not only the first original track from Floss in almost two years, but the lead volley off their new EP, Jubilation, dropping soon on Fool’s Gold and featuring even more hyperactive raps and drum machine b-b-boom. Icona Pop is a Swedish shimmering, electronic pop duo that via single tracks such as “Manners” on labels Kitsuné and Neon Gold have spread like wildfire on dancefloors all over the world. A-Trak brings forth an exquisite dub version of his remix for that new The Rapture single “How Deep Is Your Love?”, this is a slow but steady builder with squelchy, nasty synthwork and towards the end that’s when things really kick off.
“I did this remix over the summer, and when I was close to finishing it I played it to my friend, the irreplaceable DJ Mehdi. We often played each other our productions for feedback. As it turns out he and Riton were visiting New York so they stopped by my apartment. I was working on the main version of the remix, the vocal version. I knew I would make a few alternate edits during the mixdown. The funny thing was, Mehdi’s favorite part was the ending! He and Riton suggested that I have that part come in earlier. My reaction was: that would work well for the dub version. And sure enough, when I finished mixing it down I made a dub with their suggestion. When I sent it to Mehdi shortly after, he responded (as a joke) that I should call it “Dub For Mehdi”. He included it in his “Tunisian Summer” mix. And then, as we all know, the unimaginable happened and we lost our dear friend. The least I can do now is name the edit after him. This one’s for you, Memed.”

Sweden’s Korallreven and the explosive surge of London lapsed house auteur Girl Unit. Aptly, there are twinkly bits and there are moments of pure, gut-taking, rave bombast, but never do the two approaches feel awkward with each other, a testament to Girl Unit’s growing skill as a producer. At times here, things hurtle along at drum n’ bass tempo, but when guest vocalist Victoria Bergsman (The Concretes, Taken By Trees) opens her mouth, only memories seem to come out.
