RAC - 1979 (ft. Liz Anjos)

Many many years ago my buddy Filipe gave me a burnt cd with this file on it. It was this new thing called mp3 and apparently it was the future. I happily installed winamp (2.9 for lyfe) and listened to this particular song on repeat. It's all I had. That might not mean much, but it was just the start of what became my musical journey. I obviously liked music before that, but access was always a serious barrier. Napster came along and suddenly I had access to a lot more (On a 56k connection). A lot of people whine and whine about piracy but forget about the obvious benefit. I'm able to do music for a living today because mp3's opened the door for independent music. It leveled the playing field. People are far more musically educated today than they were 10 years ago. It seriously educated me. There's still a lot of horrible music today, but at least you know about the good stuff.

The song was 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins. I figured it would be cool to do a cover. It had been a while since I did a track with my wife, so this seemed like a great opportunity for that. We tried to keep it relatively close to the original but definitely putting our own spin on it.

This is the first time that SoKo ever sings in French. It's a Cover from French 77' Movie called 'Diabolo Menthe'. According to her FB Yves Simon saw this video and fell in love.

"Gosh.. crazy.. I talked to Yves Simon on the phone this morning.. and.. HE SAW MY VIDEO.. and he asked me to "please record it and put it on your album".. haha ! good god, thanks life.. you're awesome!"

           So this past friday I went up to Hollywood for a friends birthday at 'The Colony'. This place is ridiculously awesome. Great vibe. Good crowd. BUT especially awesome music! I don't know the name of the dj who opened up that night but he played some good shit. (good music allll night actually).
          It wasn't your typical electro/top40 you've come to dread because of its abundance at every club. It was smooth jazzy with a sprinkle of gangster and a 'pop' cherry on top.....but to get to my point. When they played the track above after some CSS, Kanye West, Michael Jackson, Calvin Harris, I knew it was gonna be an awesome night. The track was a pivotal point of the night....lets just say the rest was history.

Holly Miranda - Ex-Factor (Lauryn Hill Cover) [Video + Mp3]

Its been real slow in the blog-o-sphere. Nothing too exciting. I found this video and had to put it up. Holly Miranda has an amazing voice. I did some research and it turns out she just put out an LP titled, 'The Magician's Private Library'. I also found her free EP 'Choose To See'. The EP includes a recorded version of the track above plus covers of songs by lyoko ono, david byrne, when in rome, and the swans.
