Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans [Official Video + Penguin Prison Remix]

Lana Del Rey has become an is-she-real-is-she-fake critical piñata over the last few months, but we’re pretty sure no actual fan cares as long as the music is good. Penguin Prison takes that approach to remixing her song-of-the-moment “Blue Jeans,” at least. Del Rey’s old school vocals are complemented here with his big beats and brassy downtown superclub synths, which take the original's noirish elements and puts them under a dance floor spotlight. Basically, the new Stevie Nicks is up in the club.

Friends - My Boo

Ghost Town DJ’s’ 1996 single “My Boo” has reemerged as a touchstone with a new generation of artists filtering their own styles through the original’s stay-away-from-my-man Miami bass explosions. Our favorite is by Friends – who uses its cover as a b-side on a new single with the similarly-themed “I’m His Girl.” A live set mainstay, Friends preserves the tempo you know with a shaky beat, sassy vocals and menacing synth chunks that sound like keyboards being pummeled with gong mallets.

Alex Winston - Locomotive (Beach Fossils Remix)

Fellow Brooklynites Beach Fossils’ remix of 'Locomotive', a song from the excellent Sister Wife EP, pares down the frantic feel of the original in favor off a slower groove that transforms Alex Winston's dismissive refrain,'I wish I care about the things you care about but I don’t' into a profound proclamation of sadness.

Telephoned - Hold Me [Official Video + Mp3]

Criss-crossing from California to New York City, director Pomp&Clout turns Telephoned's "Hold Me" into a frenetic love letter. Pomp&Clout pushes the boundaries of POV photography, putting the viewer in the place of everything from a Metro Card to a beachside swing. The homemade look of the footage and the song's warm vocals combine to make even the smallest things—walking the dog or putting together a jigsaw puzzle—seem meaningful.
